GILROY – This week, sales associates for Century 21 Premier will be delivering empty grocery bags throughout neighborhoods in Gilroy and Morgan Hill. The bags will be accompanied with a tale of kindness and community spirit with a request to generously fill the bags with non-perishable items to be donated to needy families.

This Thanksgiving food drive, sponsored by Century 21 Premier, Stewart Title and Nob Hill Foods will benefit The Lord’s Table, a charity based in Gilroy that supports needy families throughout the year. Century 21 Premier will personally pick up the filled grocery bags on Monday, Nov. 17.

Their goal is to pick up 2,000 bags of non-perishable food items and deliver them to less fortunate families in our community. Show your support by filling the bag you receive with non-perishable food items, and someone in need will be touched by the kindness in our community. Details:

Bookkeeping basics

GILROY – The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center knows that bookkeeping is important for success, that is why it’ll be holding “Basic Bookkeeping,” on Thursday, Nov. 13, from noon to 3 p.m., at the Dry Creek Village Center, 8351 Church St., building E. Learn handwritten (no computers) double-entry bookkeeping system along with simple filing and record-keeping techniques. Fee is $20 per person.

Get ‘the look’

GILROY – Gavilan College Cosmetology Department invites you to their annual Scholarship Fund raiser and Dinner Dance on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Elks Lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Road. Guests will be treated to a show of 50 to 80 different “looks,” with hairstyles created by the students of the Gavilan College Cosmetology program on live models.

There will be a no-host cocktail bar opening at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Following the hairstyle show will be D.J. music for dancing.

This fund raiser will provide three scholarships for cosmetology students: one for a first-year student, a second-year student and a third-year student. Scholarships will be presented by the Gilroy Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Macy’s, and the Gavilan College Associated Student Body. Sponsors include Wal-Mart, Keith B. Higgins and Associates, Inc., and Diana’s Haircrafters.

Secure laughter

GILROY – Rod and Marion Pintello present “Social Security” at the Pintello Comedy Theater, 8531 Church St. The play is based on the hilarious antics of two sisters trying to figure out where their elderly mother should live. Play dates are set for Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 15, at 8 p.m.

Join the write party

GILROY – Interested in writing? Missing the camaraderie of a local writer’s group? Take heart! The Gilroy Public Library, 7387 Rosanna St., is hosting “A Writing Party,” on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 1 to 2 p.m., at their location. Walk with the wild

Morgan Hill – The Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center (WERC) will host a bird walk led by Jane Haley on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 to 11 a.m., along Coyote Creek. Observe fall and winter migratory birds while discovering the importance of their habitat and ecology.

PCAG meeting change

SAN MARTIN – The Perchlorate Community Advisory Group (PCAG), which normally meets on every fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., will hold its November and December meetings during the day due to the holidays. The new meeting times are set for Friday, Nov. 14, and Friday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Lions Club Hall on Murphy Avenue. Details: 683-2667.
