Why is it your favorite book?: “Because he was adventurous and mischievous and he fought the norm.”

When and why did you read it?: “Oh, I’d say probably 25, 30 years ago at least. I should read it again. I didn’t read it for school, I read it on my own.”

How do you use reading and writing every day?: “To make a living. It’s important. If you can’t read, you can’t understand. If you can’t understand, you can’t make a living.”

In concert with the Gilroy Unified School District’s “Love of Literacy Week,” The Dispatch will ask high-profile folks around town to

discuss their favorite books. Interviews will run through the end
