MONTEREY – Gilroy’s Amanda Suniga, 10, a Level 5 gymnast from the Morgan Hill Gymnastics Club placed 10th in the all-around at the Northern California Zone 8 Championships in Monterey.

Suniga’s scores of seventh on both floor and beam, ninth on bars and 15th on vault qualified her for the State Championship in Rancho Cordova on Nov. 23. The garlic tumbler received her highest score on bars with an 8.775 as well as season-high scores on beam with a 9.0 and in the all-around with a 33.775.

Northern California is divided into nine zones. Each zone hosts a championship at the end of the season for their top gymnasts to compete against each other. The top scorers from each zone championship qualify for States, where they will compete against the other top gymnasts in Northern California.
