protect against getting or carrying the flu to others.

SAN MARTIN – The Santa Clara County Public Health Department is encouraging those at high risk for complications from influenza to be vaccinated early. Flu season is under way and vaccinations can help protect against getting or carrying the flu to others.
If your own physician is not providing flu vaccinations, Santa Clara County residents can receive a flu vaccination from the Public Health Department Immunization Program clinic sites and also at various senior centers throughout the county. Flu shots are free for children 3 to 8, $5 for youths 8 to 18, and $10 for adults.
High-risk individuals include adults 60 years or older, anyone with chronic or long-term health problem such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma, cancer, kidney disease and HIV/AIDS, women who will be in their second or third trimester of pregnancy, infants aged 6 to 23 months and residents of nursing or long-term care facilities.
The Public Health Department’s Immunization Program Clinic will be at 80 Highland Avenue, San Martin, on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sing-along Messiah

Teachers art show
GILROY – Artist educators are exhibiting their work now through Jan. 16 at the Gavilan College Main Gallery, in the Library, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. Explore the work the college’s artistic instructors do when they are not teaching. Works include paintings, sculptures, digital media and photography. The exhibit is open Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Details: 848-4724.
Veteran broadcasts
GILROY – The City of Gilroy presents the “Fifth Annual Gilroy Veterans Video Tribute,” and will be broadcasting it on Cable Channel 17 through the Christmas holidays. This one-hour program features photos of more than 300 Gilroy military veterans. The program will be shown daily at 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., unless pre-empted by a scheduled city meeting broadcast. Dayworker groundbreaking
MORGAN HILL – Construction on the Dayworker Center will begin with a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Dec. 1, at 11:30 a.m. The center is the project of the St. Catherine’s Dayworker Committee, with cooperation of Weston Miles Architects and help from the City of Morgan Hill.
The center will be built on the corner of East Main and Depot avenues, where dayworkers gather to wait for casual laboring jobs. It is designed to offer the workers a safe place to shelter from the weather,
Omelet and Pancake Supper
GILROY – The Gilroy Lions Club will hold their annual Omelet and Pancake Supper on Friday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Ave.
Tickets will be available at the door. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. All proceeds will benefit the Lions Club’s sight program.

Play back in time
MORGAN HILL – The South Valley Civic Theatre presents “The 1940’s Radio Hour,” Fridays and Saturdays, through Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. and Sundays, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m., at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, located at Dunne Avenue and Monterey Street.
