SANTA CRUZ – Six intimate concerts at the University of California Santa Cruz will provide diverse experiences for listeners.
The six concerts begin Wednesday with Sylvia Jenkins and Roy Malan Sonatas for Piano and Violin for Ludwig can Beetoven. Malan is the founder and co-artistic director of the Telluride Chamer Music Festival and concert master of the San Francisco Ballet orchestra. He also teaches at UCSC.
Other upcoming shows include an evening of vocal music Jan. 15, north Indian flute Jan. 18, pianists Jan. 22, “Sound Colors” with the Picasso Ensemble Feb. 12 and Maria Ezerova on piano Feb. 26.
The Jan. 18 performance, Deepak Ram and Friends North Indian Flute and Beyond will feature traditional and modern Indian music for bansuri, tabla and tampura. Ram plays the bansuri, a hauntingly beautiful bamboo flute which has origins that date several thousand years back into India’s rich past. He will be joined by guests on other Indina instruments.
All concerts will begin at 8 p.m. at the Music Center Recital Hal atUC-Santa Cruz. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and $6 for students and are available at the ticket office by calling (831) 459-2159.
