Aquatic Body Strengthening and Core Back Strengthening
Gilroy Community Services fitness professional, Hebe Navarro has developed a safe non-impact aquatic strengthening class for those who may be suffering from arthritis or chronic pain.
The class is co-sponsored through the City of Gilroy and Gilroy Health and Fitness Club on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, Jan. 7 through Feb. 21 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., at Gilroy Health and Fitness Club.
The class focuses on flexibility and increasing range of motion. On Fridays, special exercises specifically designed to strengthen the core back muscles using isolation and balance conditioning will be the focus.
Due to the buoyancy factor, body weight is displaced by 90 percent. Therefore, joint stress, pressure, and stiffness are reduced. Swimming skills are not required. The class fee of $45 can be offset for those 55 years and older who can apply for a scholarship through the Gilroy City Senior Center.
