San Jose – Hundreds of the most popular pets in the United States are traveling to San Jose to compete for “Top Cat” at the 19th annual Tail and No Tales Cat Show.

Whether purebred or household pets, they are combed, fluffed and groomed to purr-fection and ready to strut their stuff. The competition, the largest in the South Bay Area, is sure to have something for everyone. It features 33 distinctive breeds for the popular Persian and Siamese to more exotic breeds such as the Ocicat and the mysterious Birman. The show also will feature a coloring contest for little cat lovers and a Peoples’ Choice Award.

The cat show is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, 344 Tully Road. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children under 12.

The show itself is not one but many shows. Each cat will have eight judging evaluations by eight different judges throughout the weekend. Each judge has his or her own ring and selects his or her best of each breed.

After all of the breeds have been judged, the judge selects the top 10 cats of the show from his or her breed winners and awards the a place in the finals.

Finals winners earn points based on the number of cats defeated at the end of the two days of judging. the cats that have accumulated the highest number of points in Championship Class, Premiership Class and Kitten Class are then presented with special awards. The points earned in the show are also applied to regional and national wins in CFA.

There are several classes of competition, including open, champion and grand champion. Kittens also compete in different competitions.

In addition to the judging activities, which will take place throughout the show, spectators will have the opportunity to see the cats up close while they are waiting to compete and ask the exhibitors any questions they may have.

They also will be a wide variety of cat-related items, such as grooming supplies, toys, cat trees and gift items for sale. Little cat lovers are invited to participate in our coloring contest and have their art displayed at the show.

Proceeds for last year’s show were donated to the Winn Feline Foundation, Town Cats of Morgan Hill and the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley.
