I was recently invited to play a surprise round of golf while
visiting some out-of-town friends. Not knowing that I would be
playing I didn’t take my clubs along so I rented some at the local
pro shop. I was happy to see that the rentals were the same brand
that I play and felt I could hit them just like my own.

After hitting almost every shot 20-30 yards off my target to the right with every shot, I came to realize that these clubs were very “flat”. Flat is a term used that describes the relationship of the angle of the shaft and how it lines up with the bottom of the club. Most players think that they are not good enough to have clubs that truly fit them or that it really doesn’t make a difference.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Beginners are the players who would benefit most from having clubs that are fit properly because they lack the skills to adjust their swings to the clubs they are using.
The lie angle is just one component of having clubs that fit your swing and body type. Weight, club length, shaft type, grip and grip size are all factors in having clubs that fit.
