Hazel Heiges, 85, passed away peacefully in San Jose on July 26.

She was married for 63 years to the late Robert Heiges Sr. Heiges was survived by her children and their spouses; Robert, Jr. and Judy Heiges, of Union, Ky.; Glenda and Lyle Mockros, of Glenview, Ill.; Nancy and Ken McDonald of Gilroy; and Laurence and VernaMae Heiges of Powell Butte, Ore. She is the loving grandmother of Christine Smith, Nancy Mockros, Carol Edwards, Karl Mockros, Barbara Lemberger, Linda Figone, Robert, Ginny, VernaJai, April, Laurence, and Rian Henry Heiges; the great-grandmother of Travis Patrick, Brandon Heiges, Morgan Edwards, Alec Mockros, Chrissy Ivory, Jimmy Lemberger, Steve Lemberger, Breanna Sondgroth, Adrianna Figone, and Julianna Figone.

Heiges also is survived by her sisters Lala Pederson of Santa Rosa and Gunda Gimle, of Turlock; her sisters-in-law Mary Alice Ericksen, of Santa Rosa and Jeannette Heiges of Lompoc; the loving aunt of many, and her dear friend Laverne Mathison, of Gilroy.

Hazel was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, while her family was immigrating from Norway to the United States. Mrs. Heiges was raised in San Francisco, where she met her husband and they married in 1935. They began their family in Lompoc, moving to Santa Rosa in 1944 and then permanently settled in Gilroy in 1951. She was a member and deacon of the Gilroy Presbyterian Church. She was active in the PTA in Santa Rosa and Gilroy, also serving on the school board in Santa Rosa. She worked seasonally at Filice and Perrelli Cannery when her children went to college. She loved attending her childrens’ and grandchildrens’ sporting events. She was an avid Giants fan, and she loved to grow and share cymbidium orchids.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gilroy Presbysterian Church, 6000 Miller Ave., in Gilroy. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations to the Gilroy Presbyterian Church Parish Nurses or the Air Conditioning Fund, 6000 Miller Ave., Gilroy, CA 95020 in her memory.
