11U baseball team finishes 10th of 100 in USSSA World Series
KANSAS – The Garlic City Bandits, an 11-under boys baseball team, put its skills to the ultimate test July 14-20 as the locals traveled to Overland, Kansas for the USSSA World Series.

In the elite field of 100 teams from throughout the country, the Bandits proved their worth – finishing 10th overall. The Garlic City Bandits were the only team from California to compete. They faced teams from Kansas, Virginia, Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, and Missouri. All the teams had to qualify during the year to earn a spot in the World Series.

After losing their first game, the Bandits fought their way back from the loser’s bracket – playing solid defense and getting strong pitching performances from Cole Campbell, Jon Carin, Ryan Williams and Alex Davis.

The garlic bats came to life as well with Carin smashing a two-run home run to mercy rule the eventual second-place team from Illinois. Other contributions throughout the tournament came via Jordan Mitchell (single, hit by pitch, 2 RBIs); Brodie Christman (7 singles, double); Gabe Bonilla (1 HBP, 3 fielders choice, 2 BB); Ryan Muir (3 singles, walk); Michael Schreiber (4 singles); Brandon Briones (four runs scored); Jeff Stine (got on base 6 times); and Spencer Belville (5 singles, walk).

The Bandits will travel to Martinez for the Aug. 2-3 state championships in their age group.
