Gemma Florence Garbini passed away at her home in Gilroy on July 12, 2003.

She is survived by her daughter, Irene R. Mantegari of Gilroy and her son, Leo J. Garbini of San Gregorio; her grandchildren, Gene, Evon, Lex, Laura and Lana; many great grandchildren and many friends.

She was born in San Jose to Italian immigrants, Joseph and Mirene Godani, on March 25, 1907. She was raised in Soquel on the family farm and then moved with her family to Gilroy in 1924. The family owned fruit orchards on Leavesley Road in Gilroy for many years. She married Leo Garbini in 1927, he was a garage owner and a pioneer aviator. Mrs. Garbini was a bookkeeper for Garbini Garage and in 1945 when her father passed away, she continued to manage the family estates. She was a loving, wonderful person and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her hobbies included, gardening, cooking and maintaining her home.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 11 a.m. followed by entombment at St. Marys Cemetery, Gilroy.
