GILROY – The Gilroy City Council will consider the following items of interest at its Monday, May 19 meeting:
• A Shapell Industries request to subdivide 1,321 acres at the Eagle Ridge development west of Santa Teresa Boulevard and southwest of Miller Avenue into 101 single-family hillside lots. The city’s Planning Commission voted 6-0 to recommend approval.
• A request by attorneys for 5-Day Furniture Warehouse to delay until early August an action that would limit general public access at the store because of alleged business license violations.
The store wants the city to alter its land-use laws in order to allow retail sales at its south Gilroy location. Council temporarily postponed the action two weeks ago so the store could return with more information for its future plans.
• An architectural and site review for a 133,000-square-foot Alzheimer’s and assisted living facility in the Village Green senior housing development near Santa Teresa Boulevard and First Street. The city and developer have haggled about aspects of the project over the course of several meetings in recent months.
• Approval of a single-tenant lease for Old City Hall to Glen Gurries and Daniel Barduzzi.
• An architectural and site review request by Western Pacific Housing to construct 90 single-family homes in the Rancho Hills/Deer Park subdivision north and south of Sunrise Drive.
• A request for $25,000 from the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County, which is a private-public partnership that contributes to affordable housing efforts.
• A motion to postpone the city flag design process until October 2003.
• A request from the downtown task force to have city staff research several recommendations, including a temporary ban on certain types of new businesses in the downtown and temporarily waived parking, building fees plus sidewalks and lighting.
• A resolution urging institution of passenger rail components.
• The resignation of library commissioner Tony Fuentes.
