GHS girls gymnastics qualifies for CCS with season-high

GILROY – The Gilroy tumblers tallied a season-high team score of 152.1 in Thursday’s home dual meet with Los Altos – a milestone that qualified them for the CCS Championships.

Despite falling to the visitors – who tallied 175.65 team points – the Lady Mustangs surpassed the CCS qualifying score for the first time this season.

Junior Luz Gonzalez finished a team-best first in the all-around with a 33.6 total, including third on her floor exercise (9.15), fifth on beam (8.0) and sixth on bars (7.8).

Junior standout Valeri Avila also had a strong showing – placing second on floor with a 9.25, third on vault with an 8.8, and fourth on beam with an 8.25 – while teammate Emily Gomez took fourth in the all-around with a 30.05 total.

In addition, tumbler Michaela Pierleoni placed fourth on floor with a 9.1 and sixth on vault with an 8.7.

The Lady Mustang JV squad also kept its three-year unbeaten streak alive with a team score of 179.85 to top Los Altos’ JV score of 152.3.

Sophomore Meghan Signoratti won the all-around with a 34.55 total, while teammate Jessica Snow finished second with a 34.25 total. Gilroy’s Marliz Copado took sixth in the all-around with a 29.5 score.
