GILROY – Solid Ground outlasted HMI 20-8 in a battle of unbeaten Men’s EE League teams Thursday at Christmas Hill Park.
Ground took a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed in moving to 4-0 atop the six-team circuit. HMI joined VFW Bingo in second place at 3-1.
Joe Padilla’s two-run triple capped the Solid Ground first at-bat. Art Webb and Joey Costa provided run-scoring singles.
Webb, Costa, Cary O’Neal and Art Amaro each drilled four hits for the winners. Dave Zamzow homered in a three-hit night for HMI. Spencer Straub went 2-for-2 and drove in three HMI rus.
VFW Bingo used home runs from Gabe Sandoval, Romero Marshall and Greg Flippo to post a 22-5 victory over South Valley Newspapers. Ray Hansell stroked two singles to plate three Bingo runs. Dave Del Villar went 3-for-3 and Zeb Carabello, Dave Stephanson and Jason Stonehouse each powered two hits for South Valley Newspapers.
Radiator Doctor snapped a three-game losing streak with a 24-9 decision over Associated Concrete. Scott Larsen homered in a 5-for-5 effort and Eric Robinson added a 5-for-5 showing for Radiator Doctor. Anthony Lucio went 4-for-5 for the winners. Eddie Soares hit two home runs for Associated Concrete. Tim Blank went 2-for-3 and scored two Concrete runs.
J. R. Brewski’s maintained a one-half game lead in the Men’s E League first-half pennant chase with a 24-8 victory over Ozzie’s Oddballs Thursday at Gavilan Sports Park.
The Brew Crew (4-0) erupted for seven runs in the third inning to snap a 3-3 tie. Willie Weihman went 5-for-5 to ignite the Brewski’s offense. John Weberg drove in seven Brew Crew runs with a triple, two doubles and a sacrifice fly. Danny Contreras went 3-for-3 and scored three runs and Matthew Perez went 3-for-3 for Ozzie’s Oddballs.
Pray For Rain used a seventh-inning RBI-single from Carlos Garcia to edge the Slammers 10-9.
Jesus Enriquez and Leo Campos each went 2-for-3 and scored two runs as Rain moved to 4-1. David Espinoza went 3-for-3 and Joseph Sanchez lined a two-run double for the Slammers.
St. Mary Men’s Club is 3-1 in third place after a 13-9 nod over the Good Ole Boys. Frank McGill roped a triple and two singles, Gary Botill a three-run homer and RBI-single for St. Mary Men’s Club. Jeff Speno completed a three-hit night for the Good Ole Boys with a three-run home run. Bill Mill lashed a triple and two singles, Chris Fritter three singles for the Boys.
