MORGAN HILL – Morgan Hill Police were called to respond to two stabbings on Friday, both possibly gang-related.

“It does seem like we’re seeing an increase in gang activity,” Acting Sgt. Troy Hoefling said Monday. “I’d say there is certainly a chance these incidents are related, because there are gang connections with both …”

The first incident, in the early morning, occurred on Main Avenue at Monterey Road, according to the victim. The 21-year-old male said he was stabbed in the abdomen, but he was uncooperative and refused to give details on the 12:16 a.m. incident.

The victim is believed to have prior gang associations with the Norteno gangs. He was taken to San Jose Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not available at press time.

The second stabbing call came in at approximately 7:45 p.m. The attack occurred on Ciolino Avenue, as the 18-year-old male victim was walking to his home. He told police he was approached by a group of six Hispanic males, and two of them asked the victim what his gang loyalties were.

The suspects claimed to be Nortenos, and assumed the victim was a Sureno, police said. The two then attacked the victim. The other four joined in the attack. The victim received a puncture wound to the chin and collapsed at his front door where he was found by a friend. The victim was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.
