Gilroy – Anthony Aguilera, the 20-year-old Gilroy man arrested following a stabbing and manhunt at Murray Avenue and Chestnut Street last month, will be arraigned on attempted murder and felony evading charges on Feb. 22.
He is suspected of stabbing San Martin resident Scott Barger, 24, in a Morgan Hill hotel Jan. 29 during a medical marijuana buy, and later that night fleeing from Gilroy and Morgan Hill police and hiding in an East Gilroy apartment. Barger has since been released from Kaiser Santa Teresa.
After his Feb. 22 arraignment, Aguilera will be facing four felony and two misdemeanor charges.
Deputy District Attorney Stuart Scott, who will be handling the case, said there is no rush to file the charges stemming from the Jan. 29 incident because of Aguilera’s previous other charges.
Since his arrest, Aguilera has been held without bail in county jail on an attempted murder charge from one of three unrelated Gilroy cases, which include two stabbings and a shooting. He was arraigned on Feb. 2 on the attempted murder charge, two felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, willfully or maliciously discharging a firearm, and possession of alcohol by a minor in public.
The DA is reviewing Morgan Hill Police Department’s case to determine who should be charged in the Jan. 29 incident. Both Carmen Arciniega, 20, and Monique Zamaripa, 22, of Gilroy, were also arrested that day – Arciniega on suspicion of felony attempted murder and harboring or aiding a felon; and Zamaripa on suspicion of harboring or aiding a felon and felony reckless driving.
