Gav trustees to evaluate president; reorganization of college

The Gavilan College trustees will meet Tuesday to discuss the reorganization of the college and also begin the evaluation of the school’s president.
Trustees have looked at a number of possible models to reorganize the colle, but have not yet decided on one. The structures would affect every level of college employees, from administrators to faculty and staff. The item is not scheduled for action.
Dr. Rose Marie Joyce, who has been president of the college for a year, is also scheduled to receive her evaluation.
The evaluation is a normal event, according to Board President Bob Bouchard. The trustees evaluate the president every year.
Joyce has actually led the college for more
than a year, after spending time as the interim president, following the departure of Glenn Mayle, who had been president of Gavilan from 1992-1997.
Previously, Joyce had been at Gavilan for eight years, as the dean of instruction.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the board will decide what process and form it will use for Joyce’s evaluation.
“This is just the preliminary,” Bouchard said. “The evaluation has to be done May 15.
Action items on the board’s agenda include Gavilan’s involvement in developing the California community college system’s 2000-01 budget package. The state is asking for input from community colleges on the subject.
Trustees also are scheduled to authorize an agreement to have a consultant help gather data on program effectiveness for the educational master plan. The consultant will also help with long-range facilities planning.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the North/South lounges of the Student Center at Gavilan, 5055 Santa Teresa Boulevard.
