Pombo wants new highway
Washington – Congressman Richard Pombo (R-Tracy) Wednesday introduced legislation to study the feasibility of constructing a highway connecting State Route 130 in Santa Clara County with Interstate Route 5 in San Joaquin County.
“Our roads weren’t meant to accommodate the volume of commuters we see traveling them today,” Pombo said. “This bill gets the ball rolling on a promising alternative which will ultimately diminish traffic so commuters can spend less time on the road and more time at home with their families.
Pombo’s proposed highway would have six lanes open only to passenger vehicles. The highway may contain energy-efficient vehicle lanes, car pool lanes and car pool toll lanes, and possibly a rail system along the highway.
