Sarah Ann Marie Van Breen and Jason Lee Treadwell announce their plan to marry on Saturday, Nov. 5 on the island of Kauai.
Sarah is the daughter of Jack and Denise Van Breen of West Linn, Oregon. She is currently employed by Advantage Homes. She attended Presentation High School and graduated from Chapman University in May 2004.
Jason is the son of Don and Sandi Treadwell of Gilroy. He is currently employed at Abbott’s Pro-Power. He attended Gilroy High School and plans to graduate from San Jose State University in May 2005.
Jason and Sarah were engaged at Sarah’s graduation party on May 29, 2004.
Desimone–Wharton
Lisa Desimone and Russell Wharton recently announced their engagement to be married. Lisa is the daughter of Rick and Ida Desimone of Chico. Russell is the son of John and Teresa Wharton of Gilroy. Both are Gilroy High School alumni. The couple will be married this spring at the Mormon Temple in Oakland with a ceremony and reception to follow. Lisa and Russell plan to relocate to Susanville to pursue their education, and their dreams, following their union.
Merrell–Caudill
Lindsey Katherine Merrell of Gilroy and Cory Landon Caudill of Palm Desert, Calif. will be getting married at the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas on June 12. Cory’s niece Brianna will be their flower girl. Lindsey is the daughter of Ed and Carrie Merrell of Gilroy, and Cory is the son of Mark and Cathy Caudill of Austin, Texas. Lindsey attended the University of Oregon in Eugene and Cory attended the University of Texas in Austin. The couple resides in Austin, Texas.

Corey B. Malko
Air Force Airman 1st Class Corey B. Malko has arrived for duty at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. Malko is a missile maintenance apprentice assigned to the 5th Munitions Squadron. He is the son of Kim A. and Kelvin R. Malko of Hollister. The airman is a 2003 graduate of San Benito High School.
Jacob A. Larez
Air Force Airman Jacob A. Larez has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.Larez is the son of Yolanda and Gilbert Echevarria of Fourth St., Hollister.
In 2004, the airman graduated from San Benito High School, Hollister.
Michael R. Reynolds
Navy Seaman Apprentice Michael R. Reynolds, brother of Aaron J. Thompson of Morgan Hill, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Reynolds completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations”. This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.
Joel E. Diehl
Marine Corps Sgt. Joel E. Diehl, son of Debbie A. Diehl of Morgan Hill and Robert E. Diehl of Lower Lake, Calif., and more than 2, 100 Marines and Sailors assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), recently joined the 15, 000 servicemember sweep of Fallujah, and has since committed to ensuring the security and stability in the cities Kandari and Nasar Wa Salam.
Members of Diehl’s unit have conducted more than 120 patrols, 13 platoon reinforced raids and a company reinforced search of Kandari. Most importantly they insured that the 1st Marine Division did not have to worry about their rear supply routes and communications during the fight in Fallujah.
MEU’s are built around a reinforced infantry battalion, a combat service support element, a reinforced helicopter squadron and a command element.
With its complement of fully integrated air and ground forces, Diehl’s unit is ready to conduct real-world operations including amphibious, helicopter and boat raids, tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel, noncombatant evacuation operations and humanitarian assistance operations.
Diehl is a 1996 graduate of Middletown High School of Middletown, Calif. and joined the Marine Corps in April 1998.

Landon P. Bishop
Army Pvt. Landon P. Bishop has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
During the eight weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions, and special training in human relations.
Bishop is the son of Alice M. Bishop of King City, Calif., and M.M. Bishop of Lone Tree Road, Hollister. The airman is a 2002 graduate of King City High School.
Rebeca A. Garcia

Ezekiel J. Robles
Marine Corps Pfc. Ezekiel J. Robles, son of Leticia Grajales of Morgan Hill and Ezekiel Robles of Gilroy, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif and was meritoriously promoted to his current rank.
Robles successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
Robles and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a. m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics.
In addition to the physical conditioning program, Robles spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training.
They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.
Robles and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps’ core values — honor, courage and commitment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.
Robles and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team effort, problem solving evolution which culminated with an emotional ceremony in which the recruits were presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and were addressed as “Marines” for the first time since boot camp began.
Robles is a 2004 graduate of Live Oake High School of Morgan Hill.
Christopher L. Mason
Army Pvt. Christopher L. Mason has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
During the eight weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions.
Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
Mason is the son of Pamela Wilton of Bonnie View Drive, Hollister, and Robert Mason of Melody Drive, Portage, Mich.
In 2004, the soldier graduated from San Benito High School, Hollister.
Corey A. Bell

Randall O’Connor
Gilroy resident Randall O’Connor, a Northeastern University (Boston, Mass.) student majoring in Liberal Arts, was recently named to the university’s dean’s list for the winter quarter, which ended in December 2004. Students must have a quality point average of 3.25 or greater.
