A Morgan Hill man wasn’t pleased when he came home one afternoon to find a friend had burglarized his home and let her pet duck relieve itself on his carpet.
“He was not happy about the duck’s poop on his rug,” Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Sung said of the victim.
The victim found the alleged burglar, Melanie Ann Dellamagiore, 38, of San Jose, and her duck sitting on his couch when he came home that day, according to police. Sometime between 8 p.m. Jan. 29 and 2 p.m. Jan. 30, she had pried open the door of his residence on the 13500 block of Uvas Road in Morgan Hill. The man ordered Dellamagiore to leave. After she left, the victim noticed that camera equipment worth $750 was missing.
Several days later, deputies recognized Dellamagiore while she was driving in her car and stopped her, Sung said. At 6:41 p.m. Feb. 2, near Richmond Avenue and Santa Teresa Boulevard in Morgan Hill, deputies arrested her for a traffic warrant, residential burglary, being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies found the stolen camera in the car’s center console, Sung said. Also riding in her car were the pet duck that had defecated on the victim’s carpet and a dog. The duck was riding in a basket on the front seat and the dog was in the back seat, Sung said. Dellamagiore was taken into police custody.
As for the duck and dog, “the suspect’s father took custody,” Sung said.
