Community Pulse: Reroute Memorial Day parade through downtown?

Should the annual Memorial Day parade be routed through downtown
Gilroy?
THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Should the annual Memorial Day parade be routed through downtown Gilroy?

Yes: 9 No: 3

â–  Absolutely! I would speculate that the majority of cities and towns have Memorial Day celebrations for their military sons and daughters on Main Street.

â–  Yes. I have heard from several participants and they all said, “Why is it not routed downtown like the Christmas parade?” That way the businesses downtown will benefit from all of the people at the parade. People can eat or shop while they are already downtown.

â–  I have mixed feelings about this. It needs to end at the park and many participants walk in the parade. I would like to see the crowds in downtown, but think it would too far of a route and can be disruptive to those trying to do business and won’t help those that want to be closed for the day! So, no.

â–  NO. Going north through downtown would have to take it north to at least Third Street and it would be a traffic nightmare trying to get it somehow over to Christmas Hill Park. Leave well enough alone.

â–  We should have it go from the train depot to First Street and then onto Miller Avenue and then on to the park for festivities. This will be hard for we who walk, however. This parade means so much to the community and I would love to see it grow. We (my generation) wish that we had the Bonanza Days back .
