GHS Field Hockey

The Gilroy High field hockey team played to a 1-1 tie with Saint Francis in Mount Hamilton Division play last Thursday night in Mountain View.

The Mustangs earned 16 short-corner opportunities, head coach Adam Gemar said, converting one of those chances seven minutes into the second half. Monica Marrazzo pushed the ball far post for a GHS 1-0 lead. Dani Hemeon was credited with the assist.

“We had more opportunities than them,” Gemar said. “They attacked us pretty well and were fast on defense.”

The Lancers countered toward the end of regulation, forcing sudden death overtime, which is played seven versus seven for seven minutes.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock.

The Mustangs were in action Monday afternoon in San Jose and beat Leigh 3-0 on goals by Tiana Huddlestun, Emily Costa and Alyssa Kroeger.
