Fighting back from an early 5-0 hole, the Christopher High baseball team pulled out a 6-5 victory over the Live Oak JV squad Monday in Morgan Hill.
After the Acorns put a 5-spot up in the bottom of the second inning, the Cougars responded with four runs of their own in the top of the third. Ryan Fredricks got the inning started with a base hit which was promptly followed by a pair of singles by Bryant Cid and Nathan Davis. Brandon Irby and Nick Cordova also had hits as Fredricks, Cid, Davis and Irby all came across in the four-run inning.
The Cougars tied it up in the fourth and took the lead in the top of the seventh on a Mario Talamante hit and fielding error, scoring Cid.
Talamante, who came in to pitch in the sixth, relieving starting pitcher Brian Ransom, found himself in a bit of a jam in the Acorns’ seventh. However, with one out and a runner on second, the Cougars turned a wild game-ending double play. The Cougars are 2-0 on the season and play St. Francis C.C.C Friday in Watsonville at 4 p.m.
