weather predicted for Garlic Festival weekend
With countless sights, sounds and flavors to savor every year at the Garlic Festival, the possibilities can be overwhelming. We want to be sure you don’t miss a thing, so we present you with our Top 5 picks of the day:

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

Known for his smoky voice and sultry tunes, Morgan Hill resident Nate Pruitt’s big screen personality will light up the Vineyard Stage from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today. Though the local legend can’t bring some of his old friends – Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones or Dave Brubeck – to accompany him, Pruitt said he’s got a stellar set to kick of the first day of the festival.

SIGNATURE

Don’t miss SakaBozzo, Gilroy’s most beloved cooking team, as they steal the show with their antics, and the help of former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Eric Wright, 4 p.m. today at the Cook-Off Stage. In between slicing and dicing, the trio will recreate Wright’s famous 1980 tackle against the Dallas Cowboys, all without disturbing a garlic clove.

YOUNG FUN

Keeping the kiddies happy is one of the keys to a successful festival for many families and this year’s children’s area has a few tricks up its sleeve. Instead of whiling away prime shopping, dining and drinking hours in the children’s area, parents can team up with their little ones on a treasure hunt that’s sure to take them to all four corners of the festival.

YUMMY FOR YOUR TUMMY

For once, it’s OK to have sticky fingers or a barbecue mustache. Bethany Community Church will serve up the perfect summer specialties such as barbecued ribs, chicken and pork loin will round out the festival’s stunning array of tempting treats. So go ahead and dig in at food booth No. 47.

WALK ON THE WIDE SIDE

While everyone else is lining up for their serving of peppersteak sandwiches, pasta con pesto or shrimp scampi, challenge your friends to a race up one of the festival’s two rock climbing walls. The competition tends to get as hot as the flame ups in Gourmet Alley so be sure to bring your “A” game. As adrenaline surges, a cordial contest can quickly turn into a not-so-friendly feud …
