We are proud workers at Saint Louise Hospital and proud members
of our union SEIU-UHW. Together we have been able to build a
hospital that serves our community at the highest of standards.
Dear Editor,

We are proud workers at Saint Louise Hospital and proud members of our union SEIU-UHW. Together we have been able to build a hospital that serves our community at the highest of standards.

We want to protect what we have built and continue to provide our patients with the best care possible. But there are those who seek to destroy everything we have built. The splinter group, NUHW, has spent the last year and a half trying to rip our union and our hospital apart. Enough is enough!

In the coming weeks, we will face an election with NUHW and are confident we will win because, despite their efforts to mislead workers, the facts are clear: SEIU-UHW is the union that fights for us.

What NUHW leadership wants us to forget is that they are the former leadership of SEIU-UHW. And they are FORMER for a reason! The corruption and undemocratic behavior that NUHW accuses SEIU-UHW of was actually perpetrated by the current leaders of their union: Sal Rosselli and Jon Borsos.

Even the federal courts have found them guilty: guilty of misappropriating union dues, guilty of trying to hide and destroy evidence and guilty of placing members at risk! They are so guilty that they have even been ordered to pay damages in the amount of $1.5 million dollars.

We have spent the last year rebuilding our union from the ruins it was left in by Sal Roselli and Jon Borsos and our primary focus has been on creating an organization that is truly democratic, transparent and representative of its members.

These are rough economic times and everyone is struggling. Workers need to be sure they stick with a union with a proven track record of fighting for us. We need to remember that working with SEIU won us our last contract with retro pay, raises, health care and job security.

At best, voting for NUHW means we would have to renegotiate everything and risk losing what we have. At worst, it means delivering ourselves into the hands of an untrustworthy and corrupt organization. Those are just not risks we can afford to take. SEIU-UHW is a true workers organization and the only choice for Saint Louise workers on election day.

Why are local government service agencies meddling in Arizona law?

Dear Editor,

Whether you support Arizona or not, the bigger question is what business does any other state or city have in boycotts?

A public service funded by my tax dollars does not have the right to make a public political stand on my behalf or tell another state how to govern itself.

The Arizona immigration law is actually LESS restrictive than the federal one. The Arizona law only allows police to ask for identification AFTER someone has already done something for which they are stopped by police.

Don’t equate July 4th with Cinco de Mayo; fly our colors proudly

Dear Editor,

Frank Valenzuela’s (May 24) letter mentioned several good details, but missed a few points:

– The Fourth of July, a national holiday, is superior to Cinco de Mayo, which is not. Do not put them on equal standing.

– Before 1821, California was part of the Spanish Empire. This is often left out by the in-faction. I like cultural holidays. I find the ones that have no meaning to me personally are still a great excuse to party. Those include, but are not limited to, Eid-e Nou Ruz, St. Patrick’s Day, and Cinco De Mayo. To me, Columbus Day, a national holiday, is and should be our top holiday, even over Independence Day.

As our Constitution mandates, we tolerate protests against this great day.

Miguel Rodriguez of the Morgan Hill School District, who will hopefully soon be looking for a new job cleaning toilets, and Shawn Weymouth, a local malcontent who once considered City Council, claim that wearing an American Flag on May 5 is “incendiary” and that it is okay to ban our country’s colors on May 5. That is clearly unConstitutional.

They probably fly a Mexican flag from their cars on July 4.

If people choose to pick a fight with people wearing U.S. flag clothing, they are the ones who should be sent home, not the ones who wear it! (“Tolerance” works both ways.) Weymouth and Rodriguez clearly have a lack of common sense. They also have a sick, unAmerican political agenda. If there is any doubt, just ask, would they ban the Mexican flag on Columbus Day? And to the students who ditched school on May 6: Keep on marching, but south, and don’t stop until you cross the border!

Appreciated enlightened religion column on injustice and faith

Dear Editor,

Thank you very much for the informative column written by Chuck Flagg on the Baha’i’s. I am sure that such outcries for justice will influence the decisions of our political leaders. I wish you all the best in your efforts to awaken the conscience of your fellow human beings.
