SALINAS – A clean three-game sweep (25-17, 25-10, 25-18) of Salinas on Tuesday night sent the Gilroy High boys volleyball team to 12-1 in the Tri-County Athletic League with three matches remaining in the regular season.
Dietrich Baumgartner led the Mustangs in both kills, 11, and blocks, seven, in the victory. Nico Sandoval pocketed eight kills, Albert Chavez had six and Robby Filice contributed five kills.
With the season winding down, the Mustangs are tied at the top of the TCAL standings with Monterey (22-7, 12-1 TCAL), who play third-place San Benito on Thursday night. The Mustangs host Carmel on Thursday in the final home match of the year.
If both the Toreadors and the Mustangs win their next two outings, the season finale between the clubs on May 6 will serve as the TCAL championship game – the winner earns the league title, the loser finishes second.
Match time for this Thursday’s home finale against Carmel is schedule for 6:30 p.m.
