sixth innings, rolling to an 11-1 drubbing of visiting Alisal in
six innings Monday afternoon.
GILROY – Following a bitter 1-0 defeat to rival San Benito on Friday, the Gilroy High softball team didn’t have to wait long this week to get back out on the field – and they didn’t return quietly.
The Lady Mustangs scored a combined seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings, rolling to an 11-1 drubbing of visiting Alisal in six innings Monday afternoon.
At 6-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League standings, the Lady Mustangs are two games behind undefeated San Benito in the loss column and one game back of Notre Dame, yet both of those teams have games to make up.
Melanie Morelos was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with three RBI, Casey Lester went a cool 3 for 4, Alissa Castro posted a 2 for 3 afternoon with an RBI and Sarah Lira ripped a two-RBI double for the Lady Mustangs.
Gilroy takes on Everett Alvarez on Wednesday in Salinas before welcoming Notre Dame to town next Tuesday.
First pitch for Wednesday’s affair is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
