San Jose police arrested a Crawford Court resident for the second time this year after their continued investigation into his possession of child pornography turned up evidence that he molested a child, police said.
About 11 p.m. Tuesday, police shone a spotlight on a residence on the 7400 block of Crawford Court and, with weapons drawn, ordered David Jones, 55, from his home, neighbors said.
Jones was out on bail from a previous arrest, San Jose Police Officer Jose Garcia said. On Jan. 19, San Jose police arrested Jones, a registered sex offender, and removed undisclosed evidence from his home as part of an undercover sting operation. At that point, police arrested Jones for possession of child pornography, police said.
The recent arrest stems from the January arrest, Garcia said.
“As officers conducted additional investigation, they were able to contact a child who had been molested by (Jones),” Garcia said.
Garcia would not say where the victim lived or disclose details of the original incident. However, the Santa Clara County Office of the District Attorney’s charges against Jones – which include one count of possession of material depicting a person younger than 18 engaging in sexual conduct, two counts of lewd or lascivious acts on a child younger than 14 and two counts of lewd or lascivious acts on a child younger than 14 or 15 – indicate that the alleged molestation occurred between May 2001 and May 2004, DA Spokeswoman Amy Cornell said.
Jones was arraigned Wednesday and will next appear for a plea hearing 2 p.m. April 22 in Department 23 at the Hall of Justice in San Jose. An attorney from the Office of the Public Defender will represent Jones, Cornell said. He is currently in custody with bail set at $150,000.
