“I felt like the girls’ chemistry went really well,” head coach Adam Gemar said. “Everyone was just flowing.”

Sophomore Monica Marrazzo paced the Mustangs with four goals, giving her six tallies early in the season. Taylor Shaut, who usually plays defense, was shifted to midfield and earned Player of the Game honors.

“We also had stellar play from Katelyn Nebesnick and Dani Hemeon,” Gemar said. “Dani didn’t have her best game, but even her off days are better than other players’ good days.”

The Mustangs capitalized on two short-corner opportunities, which sat well with Gemar.

“That was nice to see,” he said.

Freshman defender Emma Leach also garnered kudos from Gemar for her consistent early-season performances defending the cage.

“She is really sound defensively,” he said.

The Mustangs begin a two-day stretch at a tournament hosted by Leigh High School in San Jose. GHS plays Cupertino today at 4 p.m. then challenges Prospect and Corning (Chico) on Saturday.

The Mustangs kick off Mount Hamilton League play Tuesday at Saratoga, wrapping up next week with another league game on the road at Los Altos.
