Police believe they put a dent in Gilroy’s gang violence with the weekend arrests of four adult men and four juveniles at a Church Street residence.
At the residence, they also located a juvenile who had been reported missing from San Jose.
About 5 p.m. Sept. 11, members of the Gilroy Police Department Anti-Crime Team arrested Robert Navarro, 21, at 9033 Church St. on a $100,000 warrant for assault with a deadly weapon and on an additional warrant for being under the influence.
Navarro was one of the suspects concerning a June 19 assault of a man in front of his family at the Gilroy Safeway shopping center on the 900 block of First Street, police said.
The victim, who was not involved in any gang activities, fell to the curb right in front of his wife and 2-year-old daughter.
Additionally, officers detained and arrested Dominic Casillas, 18, of the 200 block of Farrell Avenue, on a warrant for oral copulation with a person under 18, Louie Vallez, 22, of Morgan Hill, for probation violation and Alexander Amezcua, 22, of the 7200 block of Church Street, for false imprisonment, parole hold and spouse abuse.
Police also arrested four juveniles for various crimes, including probation violation, possession of a machete, escaping from a juvenile detention facility and possession of a concealed weapon, Gallacinao said.
Police believe the arrestees are members of or are associated with the Norteño street gang, Gallacinao said.
“We believe that these arrests will hopefully impact their ability to commit further gang crimes in the City of Gilroy,” he said. “These arrests are significant because they do show the police department’s stance on gang crime and the community’s stance that this will not be tolerated.”
