Prep Roundup: Oct. 15

Gilroy girls tennis snapped a four-game losing streak after beating Watsonville 6-1 Tuesday at home.
The Mustangs swept doubles competition, maintaining the No. 1 team of Nicole Holder and Savanna Brandon’s 7-0 undefeated record. The lethal ladies quickly topped their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
The No. 2 team of Mya Esquivel and Maggie Pickford were just as strong. They too topped their ‘Catz counterparts 6-0, 6-0. The No. 3 team won by default.
Gilroy’s No. 2 singles player Didi Bakita recorded her first win of the season. She beat her Watsonville opponent 6-1, 6-3. Catherine Bell, the Mustangs’ No. 3, also won by a 6-0, 6-1 score. Gilroy won the No. 4 match by default.
Angela Martin, the Mustangs’ No. 1, had the team’s lone loss as she fell 6-3, 6-3.
Gilroy is now 3-5 on the year and will host North Salinas at 4 p.m. today.
Alisal edges Cougars
Tuesday’s match between Christopher and Alisal came down to the No. 1 and 2 doubles. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Trojans captured both and won 4-3.
Christopher jumped out to a 3-2 lead early with wins in the No. 3 and 4 singles as well as No. 3 doubles.
The Cougars’ No. 3 singles player, Niet Khay, quickly filed away her opponent with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Malia Campos, Christopher’s No. 4, dropped her first set 6-4, but rebounded to win Set 2 6-1 to force the tiebreaker. She secured the ‘W’ with a 10-6 decision in the final set.
The No. 3 doubles team of Camryn Crowley and Nikki Chen also needed an extra set to decide a winner. The Cougars claimed the first set 6-1, but dropped the second 6-4. They won the final frame 10-6.
Christopher (3-5) will be back on the court at 4 p.m. today at Pajaro Valley.
GIRLS GOLF
Cougars fall to Salinas
Christopher was handed a 339-227 loss by the Cowboys at Salinas Fairways Golf Course Tuesday. 
The Cougars had just three golfers and were given automatic 81s for the two vacant spots. Mia Navarro carded a 46, which wasn’t far off of match medalist Madison Champan’s score of 42. 
Madisen Ruelas notched a 63 for Christopher. Samantha Vogel scored a 68. 
Christoper (2-8) will be back on the green to host Monte Vista Christian at 3:30 p.m. today at Gilroy Golf Course.
Carmel tops Gilroy
Gilroy fell 370-251 to Carmel Tuesday on the road. 
The Mustangs were given two automatic scores of 81 as they were unable to field a full five-person team. 
Nicole Dan and Judith Diaz both scored a 67 at Carmel for Gilroy. Alessandra Esposito notched a 74. 
The Mustangs (3-7) will be back in action at 3 p.m. today at Stevenson.
VOLLEYBALL
Cougars swept by Spirits
Notre Dame-Salinas blanked Christopher 3-0 Tuesday in Gilroy. The Cougars fell 25-21, 25-15, 25-12. 
Stats from this game were not yet available. 
Christopher (13-7 overall, 3-3 in league) will be back on the court at 6:30 p.m. to face Watsonville tonight at home.
