Patrick’s amazing showing at the Brickyard last weekend wasn’t a fluke. It was a sign of things to come in the world of auto racing.
Watch your backs fellas, it looks like girls can find their way around a racetrack too.
Danica-mania has officially arrived and you can expect to see more females behind the wheel in upcoming seasons.
Last week, I mentioned that Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher had yet to win a Formula One race this season. That trend continued with Schuey’s fifth-place showing at the European Grand Prix on Sunday.
Schumacher’s slump continues to amaze me but there’s an equally baffling scenario playing itself out in the world of left-turn-only racing.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. hasn’t won anything yet this season either and his team is a complete mess. On lap 246 of the Coca-Cola 600 last weekend, Earnhardt took out DEI teammate Michael Waltrip. Earnhardt Jr. pretty much fired everybody at DEI, and now he’s lashing out at fans and even members of his family.
He now has a new crew chief and the team has said it is going to make a stronger effort to share data between the crews that are in charge of their cars.
Seems to me that they should have been doing this all along. It kind of goes hand in hand with the whole team concept thing, doesn’t it?. Of course, Dale Jr. has to be the flagship driver of the team that bears his name. Do you think that maybe it’s a possibility that Jr. doesn’t want to see a teammate succeed, especially when he seems to have, at least temporarily, lost his magic touch on the track?
nOn a totally random note, those of us who enjoy extreme g-forces and hairpin turns at break-neck speeds (but can’t quite afford a Ferrari 550) can get our adrenaline fix at a number of theme parks across California. Last Sunday, I went to Six Flags in Vallejo with some friends from work and we had a great time. The lines for the roller coasters weren’t bad at all, even for a holiday weekend. It didn’t take us more than an hour to get onto anything, expect for the ridiculous white-water rafting ride. What a joke. Almost two hours in line and the ride stunk, 30 seconds worth of getting drenched in freezing water followed by several hours of walking around the park in soggy shoes and socks. Definitely avoid that one. The Paramount park in San Jose is next on our list.
nHow about that new mugshot? We had to take a new one due to the fact that I look like a corpse in the old one. It amazes me that, for all of the talent that Free Lance staff photographer Nick Lovejoy possesses, he simply can’t take a decent headshot of yours truly. I guess that should tell me something. I’m still not happy with the mug. Plan C? I’ll get a toupee and a suntan and we’ll try it again I guess.
