GILROY—Gilroy’s Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero is headed back to the ring.
The Garlic Captial boxer, who boasts a 32-3-1 record with 18 KOs, will go toe-to-toe with Aaron Martinez of Los Angeles at noon on June 6 at the StubHub Center in Carson. The fight will be the main event and broadcast as part of the “Premier Boxing Champions” series on NBC.
Guerrero is coming off a unanimous decision loss (107-120, 109-118, 108-118) to Keith Thurman on March 7 in Las Vegas. Though he was knocked down for the first time in his career in Round 9, Guerrero got back on his feet to finish the 12-round bout.
His opponent, 31-year-old Martinez (19-3-1, 4 KOs), also lost his last fight. He fought Josesito Lopez on April 24, 2014 and was defeated by total knockout.
The last ‘W’ for Guerrero came at the Stubhub Center, when he beat Yoshihiro Kamegai by unanimous decision (116-112, 117-111, 117-111) on June 21, 2014. While long layoffs have been common for the Gilroy boxer in recent years, he said he’s happy to make a quick return to the ring this time around.
“I’m going to bring it like always and give the fans an exciting fight,” Guerrero said in a press release. “I can’t wait for the bell to ring.”
The fight card also features Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (36-4, 31 KOs) and Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo (22-5, 18 KOs), who will compete in separate bouts. Jesus Cuellar (26-1, 20 KOs) and Vic Darchinyan (40-7-1, 29 KOs) will square off in a featherweight bout.
Tickets for the event range from $25-200, plus taxes and fees, and can be purchased at AXS.com. For more information, visit premierboxingchampions.com and nbcsports.com/boxing.
