No discipline for local postal worker
• Gilroy – Patricia Finley, the Gilroy letter carrier photographed using her mail truck to push trash receptacles out of the way of mailboxes will not be disciplined. Gilroy postmistress Penny Yates had previously said Finley was facing punishment potentially as severe as termination.
“Patricia’s off the hook,” said union shop steward Debra Masten. “We really do have a good relationship with management.”
Under union rules, the deadline to discipline Finley expired Monday, two weeks after Yates discussed the matter with her. Yates could not be reached for comment.

SCVWD approves projects
• Gilroy – The Santa Clara Valley Water District approved a series of projects Tuesday that may lose their funding if the district’s budget is not approved by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in August.
The district approved $18 million in projects, several in South County, including work on a recycled water program, a firebreak near the site of the 2002 Croy Road fire and a program to protect the environment from agriculture runoff.
The district’s budget is being reviewed by an auditor appointed by the county. Supervisors will decide whether to make any changes to the $388.5 budget Aug. 2.
