Dear Editor,

St. Joseph’s Family Center is once again calling on the generosity of the residents of Gilroy so that poor and very low-income children may have an opportunity to experience the joy of owning a book.

Our annual book drive, “A Book of My Own” is gathering new and gently used books to give to children for Christmas. When it is a struggle to buy food for the table, books are not in the family budget.

Last year, we were able to give books to over 500 children; thanks to the many generous souls who donated books or funds. To watch the joy spread across the children’s faces as they realize they get to have a book of their own is like watching the sun come out.

If your children have outgrown some of their books or if you have a new book you would like to donate, please bring your books to the Gilroy Library, Gilroy Coffee and Tea (corner of Monterey and Fifth Street), the Wize Owl bookstore (7411 Monterey St.), St. Mary’s Parish School (First and Church Streets), St. Louise Hospital (Medical Surgical Dept.), or St. Joseph’s Family Center (7950 Church St.).

Donations may be sent to St. Joseph’s. Please identify “A Book of My Own” on your check. Thank you, Gilroy, for making it possible. You are making a difference in the lives of children.

Joy Hall, Gilroy
