Marilyn Jean Simoneau died Jan. 22, 2004, at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy from the effects of a long-term illness.
Marilyn was born in Los Angeles on March 19, 1931, and enjoyed her early childhood there before her family moved north to the mid-peninsula region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
After marriage, she lived the life of an Army wife, raising children and traveling overseas, eventually returning to the Bay Area to settle in San Jose with her husband and young family. She moved to Gilroy in 1986.
Marilyn was an independent woman who rarely let any task intimidate her. She had a desire to fly and earned her pilot’s license and also completed medical training to become a physician’s assistant.
As well as a very loving and gentle mother, Marilyn will be remembered by friends and family as a skilled craftsperson and active member of the Gilroy Senior Center Gift Shop. Her contributions to the senior community and gift shop will never be forgotten. Those who knew her will miss her unique and odd sense of humor and her sincere compassion.
She is survived by a sister Joyce White; daughter Patricia York; sons Michael, Jeffery and Stephen; and grandchildren Jennifer Rose, Jeffery, Jennifer Chloe and Jaylen.
At her request there will be no services and anyone wishing to contribute in her memory is encouraged to donate to the Gilroy Senior Center Gift Shop.
