DEAR EDITOR:

People who shop at Wal-Mart are only concerned about themselves and about saving a buck or two, without regard for the bigger picture. We Americans are big on “choice.”

The problem is, once Wal-Mart comes to town, they swallow up all other competition until they are the only real player in town. Is that “choice?” The really sad part about that is that Wal-Mart preys on the same folks that shop in their stores, the underpaid. We should be very careful in considering what businesses we choose to trade with.

One could extrapolate that out in the near future, with anti-union companies like Wal-Mart ridding towns of family wage jobs (both in-store employees, and suppliers, ie., jobs to China, India, etc.) We will become a nation of unskilled, low-wage workers that won’t be able to afford the products that we, ourselves produce.

In closing, I’d like to remind those union bashers that the only reason they are making a living wage at all (if you indeed are) is because organized labor set the stage for Americans to make better wages, have affordable health care for our families, have a real say in work practices, leave the job-site with dignity, and a paycheck that enables us to make real “choices” on who we give our hard-earned money to.

Funny … the only people who complain about unions are those that don’t belong to one, and wished they did. Envy is a sickening, hateful thing.
