DEAR EDITOR:
This is regarding the front-page article in Wednesday’s Dispatch about the local clergy being divided over gay weddings.
I realize this is a very touchy subject and I don’t want to start another useless argument. I am compelled to write, however, because in the article it quoted a local Methodist pastor as saying, “There is no biblical mandate against homosexuality.”
If this pastor truly believes that to be true then someone should warn his congregation to beware of his teaching and search out for themselves what the bible says. For instance, in the Old Testament, Leviticus 18, it is clearly stated that homosexual activity is detestable, right along with sacrificing your children to idols and having sex with animals.
In the New Testament, Romans 1, the apostle Paul explains that because some people choose to ignore God He gives them over to the sinful desires and lusts of their hearts, one of which is homosexuality.
We are all guilty of sin and all sin can be forgiven, including homosexuality. We need to stop focusing on our sins and start focusing on our Savior. Jesus really does change lives and save souls.
