Gilroy – She might not have been the medalist in the Gilroy girls’ golf team’s TCAL meet at Twin Creeks Tuesday in Salinas, but Carla Navarro had another reason to be happy: Her first hole-in-one.
Navarro, who shot a 5-over 36, sank the shot on the 50-yard eighth hole using a nine iron.
But she didn’t really get to enjoy the rare moment, Gilroy head golf coach Kari Williams said.
“She didn’t get to see it go in because I had told her to stop looking up on her shot,” Williams said. “She started out playing (a few years ago) and steadily improved. She’s improved every year and topped it off with a hole-in-one.”
As a team, Gilroy was beat out for first place by San Benito by a 154-152 margin. That particular 1-2 result between the Mustangs and Haybalers has become somewhat of a trend this golf season.
“Unfortunately, we’re not coming out on the upside of that,” Williams said.
