Harry Gould Carter, 72, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at his Roseville home with his family by his side after a 19 year battle with cancer.

Mr. Carter was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America, on July 22, 1932. He was the youngest of 14 children born to Harry L. Carter, an American dentist and missionary, and Lucille Rodriquez Carter, a teacher.

A musician and singer since the age of 3, Harry performed on the radio as a small child and attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

A recording artist and performer, Harry recorded several albums featuring old standards, Latin, pop and Christian music.

During the 1970s and 1980s, he performed in the San Jose area and until recently, he performed at Mission Rogelio’s in Roseville.

He also was a student, singer, and fan of opera. Mr. Carter was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He worked for Pacific Bell in San Francisco and in San Jose and retired after 35 years with the company.

In 1955, he married Sonia Bautista and was devoted companions for 49 years. They lived in San Francisco, San Jose, Gilroy and Roseville.

They had four children; Bettie, Nephty, Diana and Gary. They are also the proud grandparents of Whitney, Michael, Lindsay, Evan and Ryan.

A celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Mision Rogelio’s, 390 North Sunrise Ave, Roseville.
