San Francisco – A rejuvenated Rhododendron Island will be the center of attention Saturday, Oct. 23 as volunteers from San Francisco-based nonprofit One Brick and officials from the San Francisco Parks Department celebrate the completion of the island’s restoration.

After more than 20 months of rehabilitation by nearly 500 volunteers, the island has been restored to its original mix of rhododendrons and native flowers. In recent years, the island became overrun with ivy, brambles and weeds. Revelers will gather at the south side of Spreckels Lake in Golden Gate Park from 11:30am to 1:30pm, where they will hold a presentation overlooking Rhododendron Island at noon. Light refreshments will follow.
