Stats and accolades from Saturday’s win in Castroville
…
Player of the game: Taylor Micali, junior

As a linebacker, he played nearly the entire game for a defense that carried the Mustangs to victory. As a tight end, he blocked well and caught a pair of passes, one coming during Gilroy’s clinching touchdown drive.

Hit of the game: Neil Martin, junior

OK, so it wasn’t exactly a hit … maybe more of a wrap up and hold tight. But for the second time this season – this time in the fourth quarter – Gilroy’s kicker saved a potential touchdown return with an open-field tackle.

Play of the game: Just over two minutes remained and North County was trying to drive for the game-tying score. But Gilroy linebacker snuffed out a screen pass on fourth down and the Condors never saw the ball again.
