Nestor and Betty Perez of Gilroy announce the engagement of their son, Anthony James Perez, to Sherry Danielle Mombourquette, daughter of Cliff and Kathy Mombourquette of Folsom.
The couple will wed in a 3 p.m. ceremony on June 5 at Mission San Juan Bautista. The reception will follow at San Juan Oaks Golf and Country Club.
The groom-to-be is a 1995 graduate of Gilroy High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from San Jose State in 2000. He is a sports reporter for the Press-Telegram newspaper in Long Beach.
The future bride graduated from Folsom High School in 1994 and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from California State University, Sacramento in 1998. She is a sports reporter for The Press-Enterprise newspaper in Riverside.
The couple met in 1999 while working as sports reporters for The Bakersfield Californian newspaper in Bakersfield.
Both sports fans, the couple began their engagement in Oct. 2002 with a proposal on the scoreboard during an NHL exhibition game in Las Vegas.
The couple currently resides in Long Beach.
