Dear Editor,
With the election results close to being final and the swearing-in ceremony only days away, I want to thank voters for electing me to the Gilroy School Board. My campaign started with a core group of dedicated parent advocates and grew to an army of volunteers who did everything possible to spread my name and message. I am grateful for all these efforts and inspired by this community’s commitment to a quality public school education system.
As a Board member, I intend to work on behalf of the issues I identified in my campaign as ones of greatest concern to teachers, students, parents, and community members: a focus on the classroom experience, high academic standards and expectations, parent representation on the school board, support for our teachers, responsiveness to the community, a system that holds all participants in the educational system accountable, and resource allocation that puts the needs of the classroom first.
During the election season, I heard from many of you regarding your concerns and I, in turn, engaged people wherever I went and whenever I could in conversations about our district. That same give-and-take needs to continue in order for me to be an effective and responsive school board member. My campaign Web site, www.yesforbress.com, will be transformed into a source of information regarding Board and GUSD issues by the time I take office and will be updated on a regular basis. You will be able to provide feedback to me through that site or you may email me directly at rb****@****ic.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you again for your confidence in me and for the great honor of serving the Gilroy community.
Rhoda Bress, Gilroy
