Vonderworth, Rose net four apiece to boost record to 2-0
GILROY – The Lady Celtics improved to 2-0 in Girls 6-7 Grade play Saturday with an 18-12 nod over the Kings at Solorsano Gymnasium.

Kristin Vonderworth and Jennifer Rose each hustled to four points as the Celtics, 12-6 winners over the Monarchs last week, became the lone team at 2-0 atop the seven-team loop.

Lisa Grisham and Rebecca Dickerson anchored the Celtic defense, while Rahni Giardini, Chelsey Urbanski and Emily Loera tossed in two points apiece for the winners. Karen Blodgett, Breanna O’Neill, Brandi Graham, Alex Marshall and Kelsey Ramirez collected two points apiece for the Kings.

Angel Senior struck for six points Saturday night as the Monarchs trimmed the Spurs 22-16. Lydia Teschera countered with eight points, Geralyn Moon four for the Spurs.

Alana Osaki exploded for 19 points as the Fab Five defeated the Sparks 24-22 in double overtime. Rebekah Komar delivered five points for the Fab Five. Saphira Jabr tossed in 12 points. Kristy Pineda five and Maria Calderon four for the Sparks.

GIRLS 5 GRADE

The Sparks are 2-0 in the Gilroy Community Services Program after Saturday’s 16-8 decision over the Jazz at Solorsano Gym.

Lauren Rhodes and Cassidy Daley went inside for six and four points, respectively, for the winners. Chelsea Hice and Francesca Filice each buried a long set shot for the Sparks. Akex Rose poured in six points for the Jazz. Allison Green led the Jazz defensive effort. Chelsea Chilman was the team’s top rebounder.

Damornay Granado and Katelyn Nebesnick each scored six points as the Monarchs tipped the Blazers 12-9. Leah Ailes delivered six points, Emily Costa two for the improving Blazers.

Sara-Lorraine Lira exploded for 16 points as the Sonix topped the Magic 26-6. Ashley Lambert, Breanna Rose and Paige Peterson mustered two points apiece foe the Magic.

BOYS 8-10 GRADE

Joe Gallo scored 16 points Saturday to pace the Eastside Ballers by the Rockets 33-31 in overtime Saturday at South Valley Junior High Gym.

Eastside moved to 2-0 in league play. Frank Tomasetti scored nine points for the 1-1 Rockets.

Matt Kassel scored 11 points and Steve Mensey added eight as the Sonics turned back the 76’ers 44-29. Matt Shields and Danny Monroe each scored eight markers for the 76’ers.

Dustin Robinson collected 16 points and Anthony Bravo followed with 12 as the Ballerz edged the Huskers 38-31. Philip Terry nailed 14 points, Garrett Colton eight and Kevin Bruce seven for the 1-1 Huskers.

GIRLS 8-10 GRADE

Amanda Spellman dropped in nine points, including the deciding free throw with one second to play, Saturday as the 2-0 Sparks trimmed the Monarchs 25-24 in overtime.

Lindsay Valadez added six needed points and Jenny Ailes four for the winners. Stephanie Solorio netted 11 points, Cristi Bonowski eight for the Monarchs.

Breanna Mah logged a team-high seven points as the Queens of the Court defeated the Celtics 23-13. Amber Etienne added six points, Joan Lara and Emily Good four apiece for the Queens. Brooke Deresta and Mekale Sheedy netted six points each for the Celtics.

BOYS 3-4 GRADE

Tanner Holland poured in 16 points Saturday to lead the Sonics past the Gladiators 42-20 at Wheeler Community Center.

Holland scored 10 points in the fourth quarter. Jordan Dexter dominated the third quarter with eight points. Chris DeLaCruz provided stellar defense. Alex Saio fired in two three-point field goals on the way to eight points for the improving Gladiators. Zach Bassi scored six points, Takoda Bowers four for the Gladiators.

Ryan Alba hustled to 18 points as the Cougars turned back the Kings 32-25. Bryant Cid made three baskets in the third quarter as the Cougars responded to a 14-10 deficit. Brandon Pickens scored 10 points, Brook Oneto added five, Scott Rathi and Zach Loo four each for the Kings.

Peter Hilkene scored six points and Patrick Mank and Alex Gutierrez managed four as the Celtics defeated the Raptors 20-15. Troy Charvet scored eight points in the uptempo game for the Raptors.

Greg Spellman erupted for 16 points as the Cavaliers (2-0) stopped the Warriors 30-20. Brandon Vllar scored six points, Louis Bonesio four for the Cavs. Niko Fortino tallied six points for the Warriors. Austin Guerrero scored five points, Dylan McManus four, while Ryan Tabilas sank one free throw and came up with five steals.

GIRLS 3-4 GRADE

Serina Sandoval scored 14 points Saturday as the Broncos erased a 16-2 deficit to trim the Lady Monarchs 28-24.

Sara Sauceda added eight points for the co-league leaders. Ashley Williams scorched the nets for 14 points for the Lady Monarchs, while teammate Amanda Jabr made three baskets. Natalie Gutierrez, Alexandra Olvera, Mariesa Mozzone, Michaela Zertuche and Gabriella Alnas were noted for strong defensive play.

Kaylana Mah made 22 points as 2-0 Hot Shots defeated the Rockets 50-8. Michelle Sosa helped with 10 Hot Shot points. Kristen Purvis hustled to four points for the Rockets. Ebony Stevens and Madelyn Cortese each collected one field goal for the Rockets.

BOYS 5 GRADE

Chris Catanzaro scored 10 points as the 2-0 Lakers defeated the Spurs 34-10 at Solorsano Gym.

Dylan Jensen, Sean Monroe and Connor Ross each netted six points for the Lakers. Allen Silhanek scored four Spur points.

The Blazers are 1-1 after a 24-21 edging of the Warriors. Ronnie Short and Erik Brolin hit deciding buckets in the fourth quarter for the Blazers. Gavin Menges joined Short with eight points apiece. Tim McGowan scored four points for the Warriors.

BOYS 6-7 GRADE

Orange Crush is 2-0 atop the seven-team league after a 27-16 win over the Rebels.

Kaohu Gaspar scored seven points and Shaq Johnson added five for the Crush. Andres Valverde scored four points, Nick Marra three for the Rebels.

Raul Quintanar scored six points and recorded five steals as the Magic topped the Knicks 33-24. Roger Alonzo scored eight points for the Magic. Alex Garcia scored eight points, Justin Botill six for the Knicks.

Mario Cid scored seven points to lead the Blue Devils by the Clippers 17-13. Nathan Cassel and Jose Gamboa each scored four Devil markers. Ty Price and Brandon Elam each scored four Clipper points.
