that a woman was storing a live hand grenade at All Safe Storage
located at 16880 San Benancio Way.
MORGAN HILL – Morgan Hill police received an anonymous tip at noon Monday that a woman was storing a live hand grenade at All Safe Storage located at 16880 San Benancio Way.
Officers met with the manager and discovered that Shireen Chiu, 33, of Morgan Hill, did indeed rented a storage unit. Detectives cut the unit’s lock and found a military-type hand grenade hidden in a tin box, according to Lt. Joe Sampson of the MHPD.
Chiu arrived at the unit shortly after the device was discovered and admitted that the grenade belonged to her. She was arrested for possession of a destructive device and taken to Santa Clara County jail for booking.
The San Jose Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms unit was notified and took possession of the grenade by 6:30 p.m. for analysis.
San Benancio Way leads south from East Dunne Avenue near U.S. 101, next to A Children’s Garden. All Safe Storage is located behind the school.
