Gilroy has a new problem—electric bikes—and it needs to be fixed now! They are now everywhere. Skateboarders and everybody else are not safe. I say get rid of them altogether, or ban them from the city.
You don’t see this in other cities. E-bikes should be regulated now and before someone gets hurt.
Safety is a big issue here in Gilroy. The public is not safe at all. I see it all over town. I walk a lot, so I see the problem firsthand, and it needs to be addressed. Does someone have to get killed to take action?
It’s bad enough there is too much traffic. Here are some new ideas to fix this: Speed limits; get them off the sidewalks; or ban them altogether.
I have already almost been hit several times EVERYWHERE in town.
In closing, we can’t afford to be lazy on this issue. We must act now and if not, do we have to file a lawsuit or sue the city?
Better act now or pay later. Better put on the brakes.

Why is it always more regulation? If the problem is people riding recklessly, then enforce the laws. Why punish everyone who rides an e-bike? Speeding, ignoring traffic laws, and riding dangerously are already against the rules, regardless if you’re on an e-bike, bicycle, skateboard, or behind the wheel of a car. We don’t ban cars because some drivers are reckless. We don’t ban pencils for mispelled words. Gilroy should enforce existing laws and hold irresponsible riders accountable instead of calling for an outright ban. Target dangerous behavior, not an entire form of transportation. Safety matters, but so does common sense.
