Gilroy Little League baseball squad levels San Lorenzo Valley,
9-1
GILROY – After losing a very close game against the host team Watsonville Nationals, the Gilroy Little League’s Boys Major’s bats came alive in Friday’s third game to down the talented San Lorenzo Valley All-Stars, 9-1.
Pitchers Ryan Tapia and Eric Vegas combined for seven strike outs and allowed only three hits, while the Gilroy offense generated nine runs on nine hits, highlighted by a seven-run second inning and Tapia’s fifth-inning blast.
Randy Guerrero started the game-breaking rally with a base hit to center, followed by three more consecutve off the bats of Tapia, Taylor Price and Cory Snyder. With two runs in and runners at the corners, Kyle Stannard drew a walk to load the bases and Vegas sent a sacrifice fly to left field. Then Jose Gamboa drove in two runs on a one-out double to right-center field.
Logan Sweeney kept the rally going with a sharp ground ball to short that scored two more runs and he eventually came around to score on Jacob Gonzales’ grounder.
The Gilroy All-Stars scored again in the fifth inning when Juan Delgado was hit by a pitch, and Vegas connected for his fifth home run in three games over the leftfield fence, plating two more runs.
Strong defensive performances from Stannard, Price, Gonzales, Michael Aldridge and Bryan Sanchez kept San Lorenzo in check.
The Gilroy All-Stars are managed by Court Stannard and coached by John Price and Scott Aldridge.
The next game will be Wednesday in Watsonville at Ruso Field. Gilroy holds a 2-1 in the All-Star Tournament and will face either Live Oak or Salsipuedes.
Directions to Ruso Field: 152 West turns into East Lake. Park is within one mile of Houlahan and East Lake. Continue on East Lake until you see the home under construction, turn left after the construction, fields are located next to An Solo School.
