Learn Basic Bookkeeping
GILROY – A ‘Basic Bookkeeping for the Small Business Owner’ workshop the owner who knows that bookkeeping is important for success, but is intimidated, confused, or unskilled in keeping financial records.
Get control of your business with the basic, written (no computers), double entry bookkeeping system, along with simple filing and record keeping techniques. Business banking, auto and petty cash records and working with an accountant will also be touched on in this fast passed workshop.

GILROY – A ‘Retirement Plans for Small Business” workshop will present an overview of most often utilized small business retirement plans, including SEP/IRA’s, SIMPLE, UNIK’s, Traditional IRA and Roth IRA. Included in the overview will be descriptions of the plans and how to establish each of them. Learn how anyone in small business can set aside money for their ‘golden years.’

Save water month
SANTA CLARA COUNTY – The Santa Clara Water District is celebrating May as water awareness month through a water conservation campaign.
To help residents spot inefficient water use in their homes, the district is offering ‘Water-Wise House Calls,’ a free program which sends trained water surveyors to a home to review water use and offer suggestions for using less water.
Residents can gain tips to use less water in and around their homes.
For example, using a broom instead of water to clean driveways or sidewalks, using low-flow showerheads and using a shut-off nozzle on garden hoses can greatly help.

Live Auction
GILROY – CMAP will conduct a live televised auction from Friday to Sunday, May 21 through 23. Businesses who donate a gift toward the auction will have a ‘thank you spot’ on Channel 20, including business name, location and services, shown now until June.

GILROY – Chitactac-Adams County Park, located at the intersection of Watsonville and Burchell roads, will hold ‘Wildlife Sensory Awareness’ from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 21.
Discover how animals have adapted to survive in the wild by using all of their senses. Nature walk and activities incorporate sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.

Robot wars
GILROY – Sacbots presents ‘The Gilroy Bot Gauntlet’ on Saturday, May 22, at noon at Hobby World, 6901 Monterey Road.
Admission is free, but an entry fee will cost $15 per robot.
Weight classes are divided into one-pound ant weight and three–pound beetle weight.
First place prize is $200 and second place prize is $75.
