Lady Mustangs tally 155.15 team points in SCVAL
Championships
MOUNTAIN VIEW – It took all eight Lady Mustang gymnasts to accumulate 155.15 team points in Tuesday’s SCVAL Championships at Twisters Gym in Mountain View.
“They did really well,” head coach Nichole Anagnoston said. “We qualified for CCS as a team. That was our goal and we reached our goal.”
With the CCS cut at 150 points, the Gilroy High girls gymnastics team surpassed that and qualified for the May 18 section finals at Gymtowne in San Bruno.
“In gymnastics, five points is pretty substantial,” said Anagnoston, who pulled three girls up from the junior varsity to help out the five-member varsity unit. “We were looking for a combined effort and everyone came through.”
Senior Luz Gonzalez finished 12th in the all-around with 33.4 points, sophomore Erin Kinkel placed 13th with 33.1 points, and senior Marliz Copado took 13th overall with 31.85 points. The three qualified for CCS as individuals.
But with the help of junior Erica Law, sophomore Samantha Nussbaumer, junior Megan Signorotti, sophomore Adrian Etienne, and sophomore Kelsey Garcia, Gilroy advanced to the section finals as a team.
“It was just nice that each girl’s score counted for us qualifying for CCS,” Anagnoston said. “We’re proud of them. That’s for sure.”
